Description of West Mercer PTSA Events

Welcome Coffee – Kick off the start of the school year by attending our Welcome Back Coffee the morning of the first day of school. The coffee provides an excellent opportunity to see the wide variety of volunteer activities available at West Mercer. Sign up to help in the Library or be a room parent and learn more about how you can become involved in your child’s experience at West Mercer.

Kindergarten Social – Enjoy an evening of getting to know other incoming Kindergarten parents in a casual adults-only atmosphere.

Ice Cream Social – Meet new families, catch up with old friends and enjoy a bowl of ice cream at our first all-school social of the school year.

Walk to School Day – Celebrate International Walk to School Day by walking, biking, riding your scooter or taking the bus to school! Join your friends for some snacks, music and more before school starts.

Island Book Fair – Brunch and browse with your friends at Island Books. This is a fun event that benefits our PTSA and gives you a chance to get a start on some holiday shopping.

Heritage Cultural Event – Celebrate our diversity by attending our Heritage Event. Last year’s event included student-made booths representing various countries, entertainment, festive food samples, and passports for the kids to fill out. A high-energy, fun-filled evening!

Hoedown – Dust off your boots and get ready for a stomping good time. After a week of learning to line dance at West Mercer, students get to show off their skills and teach their parents some new moves at our annual Hoedown. A fun West Mercer tradition that is not to be missed!

Kindergarten Round-Up – Join Mercer Island School District administrators and teachers to learn more about Kindergarten in our school district – presentation topics range from curriculum to lunch to riding the bus.

Humane Society Visit – The Humane Society’s Max Mobile makes its annual visit to West Mercer. Kids learn about the services the Humane Society provides to our community, tour the Max Mobile, learn about dog safety, and complete some cool crafts. Before the Max Mobile takes off, we load it up with donations of pet food and blankets collected during our school Pet Food Drive.

Talent Show – A fun-filled evening, showcasing our talented West Mercer students. Interested performers practice and prepare to show off their skills – from singing to hula hooping. Watch our kids put themselves out there and shine!

Breakfast of Champions – This is the Mercer Island Schools Foundation’s annual showcase community event. The goal of this breakfast is to raise funds for the Bridge the Gap efforts to retain our teachers and to reduce class sizes. We would love to have you join us at one of our West Mercer tables for this inspirational community event.

Earth Day Event – New this year! Join the Green Team as they celebrate Earth Day by focusing efforts on the Hillside Restoration Project just behind our parking lot.

All Island Track Meet – Join us for a fun filled afternoon of friendly competition between all Mercer Island’s elementary schools. 4th and 5th graders from each school try out for and compete in a variety of Track and Field events. Show your West Mercer pride! Go Wolfs!

Teacher/Staff Appreciation – Celebrate and thank our amazing West Mercer staff at our two Teacher/Staff Appreciation luncheons. Sign up to decorate our Staff Lounge, bring in homemade goodies to share, and/or help serve lunch to our staff. It is a simple and fun way for us to say “thanks” to our teachers and staff for all they do.

4th Grade Music Tryouts – Near the end of the school year, representatives from the Middle School and High School music programs will visit West Mercer to introduce our 4th graders to a variety of instruments. Students are encouraged to sample a few instruments and consider signing up to join the orchestra or band during their 5th grade year.

Bike to School Day – Like our Walk to School event, we encourage you and your child to bike, walk, scooter or bus to school and join in the festivities before school starts!

Spring Celebration – Our last all-school social event of the year. Join us for ice cream, bouncy houses and other fun activities as we get closer to ending the school year.

Field Day – Remember Field Day when you were a kid? Drop the competitiveness, add popsicles and you’ve got Field Day at West Mercer. Time for your kiddos to limbo, hula hoop and play games with their friends as we near the last day of school.

Principal’s Coffee – An opportunity to informally listen and speak with Carol Best about current West Mercer and school district events. Principal’s Coffees are held every other month. Specific times and dates are published in The Wolf, the West Mercer newsletter.
